WHY ZERO WASTE?

Cities around the world are generating more waste than ever, and without effective management, much of it ends up polluting our environment and threatening public health. This portal provides resources, strategies, and case studies to help cities transition to sustainable, zero-waste systems.

Over 2 billion metric tonnes of waste are produced each year — that’s about 0.7 kilograms per person daily.
Waste contributes up to 20% of human-related greenhouse gas emissions.
About 23% of waste is never collected, and 33% is openly dumped or burned.
Only about 20% of global municipal waste is recycled or composted.

Where we work

We are actively working in the five pilot cities of the SWAP Initiative. These cities are leading the way in demonstrating how sustainable waste management, circular economy solutions, and safer production can be implemented at scale.
